During the first day of the tour, we make our way up the West Coast, stopping at the beach on the Atlantic Ocean to see Table Mountain across the bay. We continue our journey and with any luck, you will see the spectacular carpets of wildflowers of the famous Namaqualand region. One of the finest views in the Cape can be found in the majestic Cederberg Mountains. As our accommodation for tonight, we are staying at The Old Village, a citrus farm outside of Citrusdal. We leave our lodge in the morning for our camp on the banks of the Orange River, which forms the border between South Africa and Namibia. We arrive in the afternoon where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing in the water that has supplied the region with its famous diamonds. We will enjoy our evening meal prepared by our guide around the campfire in the African wilderness. Early departure for the Fish River Canyon. En route, we will visit Ais Ais to explore the hot springs. Here thermal water rich in sulphates and fluorides and with a temperature of approx 60°C gushes forth from the springs. In the Nama language, "Ai-Ais" means "burning water". We then proceed to our accommodation which is situated close to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on earth. Later in the evening, we take in another perfect African sunset with magnificent views and scenery along the edge of the canyon. Our tour today takes us to the world's tallest sand dunes at Sossusvlei. As we drive into the park at sunrise, the red sand dunes become absolutely spectacular and make for great photo opportunities. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). We also stop to view the SesriemCanyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River. The day is spent driving through the Namib Naukluft NationalPark on our way to Swakopmund. The Namib- Naukluft Desert is an ancient land with an ageless spirit. It is home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in the world and sightings of this flora and fauna on a Namibian safari are a must. The animals of this harsh landscape include the oryx, springbok and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. We arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon with time to relax or explore this charming coastal town. Dinner will be taken at The Jetty 1905, a famous local restaurant with 360degree views of the ocean. The Jetty offers a terrific Swakopmund experience blending an integral part of the town’s history with the modern comforts of today. For the tourism industry in Namibia, this lodge is a landmark as it is the first middle-market establishment in the country that is owned by the conservancy. The chalets are perched on the lip of the Grootberg Plateau, with an infinite view down the Klip River Valley. On the day of arrival, we will do a scenic drive on the plateau, clients will have the opportunity to enjoy the local flora, the amazing rock formation of the Etendeka Mountain and the shy wild animal inhabitants of this plateau. You may even catch sight of one of the elusive desert Elephants! The next day is free to relax or partake in a number of optional activities including Elephant and Rhino tracking, game drives and nature walks. Experience the milking ceremony and the smoke bath. Learn about their beliefs around the holy fire, ancestors, and herbal medicine. We then continue our journey onto Etosha National Park through the remote western region which was previously off-limits to travellers and an area favoured by the Oryx and many other antelopes. Etosha Game park was declared a National Park in 1907, it is home to approx. 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. We fill the next 3 days with game drives, which include evening game viewing at floodlit waterholes. You can take a swim in the swimming pool or from sunset till late into the night, the group can watch animals drink at the floodlit waterhole. The lodge is shaded by large Marula and Tamboti trees overlooking a landscape that is breathless and peaceful. This morning we enjoy a 2 hour guided walk through the most beautiful scenic landscapes on foot. At Ohange you experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush on an early morning walk accompanied by an experienced walking safari guide. Our journey continues as we drive towards the Caprivi Strip to the town of Rundu and onto our lodge. In the late afternoon experience another magnificent African sunset on a sundown river cruise (drinks excluded). The next morning is for cultural discovery at the Mbunza Living Museum. The main focus of the Mbunza Living Museum is to provide visitors with detailed and authentic insight into the traditional, pre-colonial culture. The Living Museum, situated at the Samsitu Lake, is a traditional village of the Kavango, who have lived in this area for centuries. Experience daily life in a traditional village, including craftsmanship (production of clothing, mats, jewellery and baskets) and a traditional kitchen. Listen to some old stories of the Kavango and get to know some of the special arts like pottery, wood carving and blacksmithing. Participate in a short bushwalk, where stories are shared and ancient knowledge of plants and fishing techniques. The afternoon is free to relax at the lodge or participate in optional activities. In the afternoon we will do a sundown cruise on the Kwando River in search of elephants, hippos, buffalo, sable antelope and more. The next morning we will go on a game drive in the Bwabwata National Park. In contrast to the rest of Namibia, this area is lush with riverine forest, marshes, dense savannah and mopane woodland. Chobe, which is the second-largest national park in Botswana and covers 10,566 square km, has one of the greatest concentrations of elephants found on the African continent. Day 19 start your morning off with a hopefully spectacular 3-hour game drive in Chobe National Park. You will return to the lodge to relax before lunch until our boat cruise on the Chobe River starts at 3 pm. Here we can watch elephants, hippos, crocodiles and a variety of birds and more without having to reach for our binoculars – You’ll be close enough for close-up photographs. Continuing our trip we leave Botswana and drive to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Your guide will take you on a tour of the mighty Victoria Falls, known by the local Kololo tribe as Mosi oa Tunya- “the Smoke that thunders”. The rest of the day may be spent at leisure or partaking in one of the many activities on offer.
